About Jamie
Born in the Copper Coast, 2 hours north of Adelaide, Jamie Newton is a Contemporary Country Music Singer/Songwriter who projects powerful vocals and mixes them with melodic acoustic guitar playing, emotive and thoughtful songwriting and a flair to entertain. Jamie has an easy going nature being raised in the coastal country town of Wallaroo and this persona projects into his music style.
Born diagnosed deaf at 15 months old, Jamie went through 16 years of surgeries, speech therapy and lots of pain but it is during this time, Jamie found an affinity of music, being raised listening to music at family gatherings, in the home and everywhere in between. Jamie was influenced by such bands as the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, The Beach Boys, David Bowie and many more classics and found a way to make the most of the deficiencies handed to him and used techniques of focus and active listening skills to develop an ear for music.
Jamie started learning Piano at a young age but it wasn’t until the age of 15 he got his first Guitar (Ibanez G10) with the proviso that he is to stick with playing it. From then on Jamie learnt how to play the Guitar and was able to play a few songs after a short time. The guitar was a way in which Jamie was able to channel his emotions through his Teenage years and also through his early 20s when life got tough.
Already believing he has a singing ability, Jamie decided to put both singing and guitar playing together and by the age of 30, began playing gigs at pubs in his local area.As time went on, Jamie started to play for weddings, birthdays and regular gigs and in 2019 was encouraged to compete in the Burra Country Music Talent Quest in which he won a Scholarship to attend the Country Music Academy in Tamworth with 29 extremely talented musicians. Here Jamie met some amazing artists and rubbed shoulders with household names of Australian country music, learning the business aspect of the music industry and expanding his knowledge of being a musician. This experience led Jamie down a path to expand his musical ability, improve his songwriting and open up the door to become the best he can be.
Jamie is currently developing his debut single through Windenberg Studios in Adelaide with a release date in early March 2022 in what will be a promising beginning to a career that Jamie only dreamt about growing up. Jamie is a man that aims to inspire people through his music, songwriting and his overall persona that people can understand, resonate with and take it in to their own lives to remember and cherish. When not making music or playing live shows, Jamie is a loving father of 3 sons, a cricket coach for his sons team, and making sure he stays fit to keep up with them.
Although Jamie Newton is only just beginning in the music industry, his future as a Contemporary Country Singer/Songwriter is bright.
